So Labor Day weekend has passed and we’re a few steps into September. ‘Weld’ disc 2 fit pretty well for me as a soundtrack to a busy, post-holiday Tuesday. I picked this disc up for $3 at the great Haight Amoeba in San Fran a few years back and have loved it (and the store) ever since. In exactly one month, I plan to visit Amoeba once again (I need disc 1). Rocktober approaches: the countdown begins: 23 days until The Mugs hit the road for the left coast. I’ve already started a list of record stores to hit up in each city along the way.

Before we make the big trip, we do have a smaller trip planned this Saturday for all of the local homies. One of Jeremy and my friends [and veritable Pennington institution], Mike Baunach, has been kind enough to invite us to play at his summer’s end house party in Pennington, NJ. Backstory: J and I met in junior-high and as our friendship grew in high-school, so did our frustrations. Along with most of the 16-19 year population in Mercer County, we spent a good bit of our pre-college years patiently waiting for the escape to college since our humble suburbs offered little in the way of satisfactory underage nightlife. Baunach always had a line in on any of the good action around town. I’ve always appreciated his efforts to rally the disparate pockets of local energy into one good natured bachanallia. The great thing about a band is that it’s a good excuse to go visit some old friends.
