So we have pretty much booked our 3 week journey for this fall. There are still a few dates to flesh out between Iowa and California, but the majority of the trip is set. At this point, we felt it might be interesting to give an update on what’s going down. Basically, a few months back we had some discussions about how to expand The Mugs audience in a manner that stayed true to the spirit of our music and our growing community. After toying with the idea of seeking a publicist or devising some manner of marketing tool, we quickly made a unanimous decision that the money is best spent touring. All of the bands we admire took it on the road in order to reach the people. It makes sense: simple, direct.
However, that doesn’t mean we’re going to sit back and hope for a crowd. We are now actively reaching out to folks in each city along our tour path (and beyond) in the hopes that we can inspire the good people of the world to come hear where we’re at. We’re reaching out to open format and college radio stations, badass local record stores, and the many bloggers of the world. Being a music fan, I’m finding this task to be an absolute pleasure. It’s a lot a fun (and eye-opening) to investigate the various scenes throughout the States and to see how all of this “music business” comes together. The good news: radio is not dead, local music stores will always be a pivotal part of the scene, and bloggers are very nice people.
Baltimore/D.C. : Consumption Junction
An ear for indie rock. They make it out to shows in Baltimore, D.C., and Philadelphia. We’ll be working our way towards Baltimore & D.C. soon. Playing “Daisy Cutter” and “Lady Liberty” in D.C. can’t think of a better time.
Boston : Pockettrax
Best summary of The Mugs in 11 words or less. Cool site. They don’t do news or reviews, but rather compile songs by a very solid (and growing) collection of artists. The music sorting/tagging adds an interactive element. A lot of good music to be had here.
Boulder/Denver : Fuel For Friends
Covers a wide, refreshing spread of music (not just indie). A great resource for seeing what’s happening in Colorado. Never been to Colorado, can’t wait. Hope those Cornell trackies are ready to drink.
And… just for kicks, my favorite hub on the Internet: Earfuzz.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad I could help and that my limited vocabulary was able to define you so precisely. haha.
cheers and see you in September for that Guiness.

Why no LA stop?
We have a wedding to attend in San Francisco so the scheduling, unfortunately, did not allow enough time to visit LA. I’ve never been to LA and really want to go. Hopefully some time soon.
