watch in high quality.  it makes a difference.  enjoy.

ma bell. das bell house.

gowanus now has a full-frontal rock shop and lounge in the bell house, and we think gowanus likes it.  it was our honor to start things off for this amazing space on wednesday night, and we had a great time warming the stage for tim fite, eugene mirman, ac newman and a whole slew of amazing performers.

a special thanks to skippy, william, jeff, and the whole staff and owners at the bell house.  she’s definitely sea worthy, ready for the wide open ocean.  congrats to you for building something great.

thanks to everyone who made it out.  thanks to courtney, faith, and ivy for getting our music to the people.  todd took some video of the show, and he will be posting parts of it throughout the next couple of days (thanks, dude).  here is a link to the first one he put up (be sure to “watch in high quality”.  it makes a difference):

todd posted some more videos, so be sure to check them out.  brett put up some great shots of our artwork. we’ve also got a show coming up in september, and we’ll post the announcement here.  so be sure to keep your eyes peeled…

more studio fun

As previously mentioned in the “good stuff happening” post, we are mining the studio hard-drives for choice morsels of sound; these morsels are then moved to our studio archive where everyone is welcome to explore, listen, and/or collaborate.

2008-02-29_Part1 (37:43) - Grubles : a supergroup (in their eyes…)

Grubles is an example of what’s great about having our own studio space: the occasional free-for-all jam. Like the annual New Year’s Eve parties, this was an open-house-family-style-play-whatever-instrument-is-available melee. Most of you may not know, but, Grubles opened for the Grateful Dead at Betty Nelson’s Organic Raspberry Farm in ‘68.

More info and other offerings over at Earfuzz, and, after the jump.

good stuff happening

First, some light reading music: 2006-01-28 - 70’s Theme

Added a new category to the links - kemosabes. As may seem somewhat evident from the title, these are musical extensions of The Mugs friends/family. Chocopine has just started playing out in this fair city (and doing a mighty fine job at it too). Their shows are guaranteed good time. Highly recommended. And, speaking of good times, the Big Naturals just finished up a 3 song collection - Come On In The Water’s Warm EP. Yes, the water is indeed warm. Both bands were engineered/produced by Mr. Nick Moy at our studio home base.

And, studio, studio studio… we just kicked off a collaborative music-making experiment with Ear Fuzz - Virtual Crates. Take a moment; check it out. And, if you’re interested in piecing together some future rock classics (no experience necessary) with any of this material, let us know. You can find the ever-growing archive of musical legos here.
